SMOKE DETECTOR

A smoke detector is a fire alarm which detects the presence of smoke to signify that there can be fire. It operates based on the principle of detecting smoke particles in the surrounding environment with the help of either ionization or photo electric sensors. When it identifies smoke presence, the device produces a loud alarm to warn people, and buy time for evacuation. The smoke detectors are mounted on ceilings or high walls because smoke moves upwards at a very high rate during a fire. Thus, batteries should be checked periodically and cleaned so that they will work properly as a continuous power source. Indeed, smoke detectors are mandatory in most residential and many commercial structures in many jurisdictions suggesting their critical role in preventing fires.
